Bree Shannon tells Inward Core how she Push Through her Fears in order to live out her dreams.
"For me, the key to
all of it is to FEEL the fear and then do it anyway. There were so many fears for me when I
decided to change my career from a Human Resource Manager to an Entertainer. I had no idea what to expect. I can admit that my biggest fear was dealing
with how my financial situation was about to change. But all I knew deep down inside is that I
wanted a change, I wanted to be happy, I wanted to enjoy my life and I wanted
to enjoy what I did for a living. Those
things alone motivated me to push through my fears. Something that also helped me was to look
back on other things I had done in the past and had succeeded, and how it felt
to achieve those things, even if it had been back in high school or
college. If I could do something that I
was fearful of in the past, I could definitely at least give it a try in the
present. I also made sure I had some
“cheerleaders” in my corner. There's
nothing like having support from friends and family that REALLY believe in what
you are trying to do and really want to help you. And if you feel you don't have or can't get
that support from your immediate family or friends, join some organizations or
clubs or work for someone that has something to do with or will support your
desires. It will encourage you and give
you more confidence in your decision.

It is wise and in
your best interest to at least have a short-term plan and to take baby steps if
necessary. Having God in my life and
sincerely going to Him in prayer with my plan, and then asking for His
direction gave me peace with each move I made.
I went back to the performing arts school and dance studio that I grew
up and trained in and I started working for them, just so I could be around the
Arts. I started auditioning and landed a
job at Six Flags Over Georgia singing and dancing in a pop music show on the
main stage. I remember how I felt
getting that job because it was the first “performing” job I got after making
the life changing decision to pursue a career as an entertainer. I had accomplished what I'd set out to do and
started believing more and more in myself.
I remember saying out loud, “I can do this!” It made me feel happy, overwhelmed,
empowered, encouraged and excited all at the same time. That job opened the door for another
opportunity, and just like that, the fear came back again! The truth is the FEAR never goes away. But if you will learn to feel it, and then
move in faith you will accomplish things you never thought were possible. And you will enjoy your life!!
Today I'm a featured
vocalist for Carnival Cruise Lines and I absolutely love my job. I get to travel to places I've never been
before and meet all kinds of people from different cultures. I have a melting pot of wonderful friends
that I will have for the rest of my life and I've had life changing experiences
I would have never received had I not done so many things in fear. And there are still so many other things I
want to do in my career. I now know that
even though I may be afraid to do those things, I can do them AFRAID. Believe in yourself, trust God to help you
and don't give up on your dreams. Feel
the fear and do it anyway! Your “better
life” is waiting and depending on you. "
Please send Inward Core an email of any fears you decided to Push Through or email us if you need more suggestions to help you push through your fears.
